Workshop Supervisor – Heavy Mobile Mining Equipment
The Workshop Supervisor will be responsible for leading and managing the maintenance, inspection, and reliability of heavy mobile mining equipment and earthmoving machinery. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on expertise with large-scale dump trucks from Hitachi, Caterpillar (CAT), Komatsu, and Liebherr, as well as experience conducting structural and mechanical inspections across multiple models of earthmoving equipment. This role requires strong leadership, technical proficiency, and a proven track record in implementing QA/QC process improvements to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Operations & Leadership
- Manage day-to-day workshop activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance practices.
- Supervise and mentor mechanics, technicians, and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability.
Equipment Expertise
- Conduct inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on: Hitachi Series, BELL Equipment, Komatsu 830E, 930E series, Liebherr mining trucks other earth moving equipment.
- Perform structural and mechanical inspections across a wide range of earthmoving equipment models (excavators, loaders, graders, bulldozers, etc.).
Quality Assurance & Quality Control (QA/QC)
- Develop, implement, and monitor QA/QC processes to ensure maintenance work meets industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring mechanical or structural issues and implement corrective measures.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop efficiency, safety, and reliability.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Liaise with external auditors, inspectors, and OEM representatives to ensure compliance and certification.
Strategic & Commercial Support
- Provide technical and financial input into budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for workshop operations.
- Support procurement by evaluating spare parts, consumables, and vendor performance.
- Deliver reports and recommendations to senior management on equipment performance, risks, and opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in heavy mobile mining equipment maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory/managerial role.
- Hands‑on experience with Hitachi, CAT, Komatsu, and Liebherr dump trucks.
- Proven experience in earthmoving equipment inspections across multiple models.
- Strong knowledge of QA/QC processes, equipment reliability, and preventive maintenance systems.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and maintenance management software.
