Job summary

MECS Africa is seeking a seasoned Workshop Manager to lead our heavy equipment maintenance team in South Africa. The role demands hands-on expertise with forklifts, reach stackers, side lifters, and fleet vehicles, plus strong budgeting and parts procurement capabilities.

You will drive diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and warranties knowledge, while mentoring multi-skilled staff, optimizing parts inventory, and coordinating across operations under pressure.

Qualifications

• Diploma or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics or related field.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in workshop management, preferably within the transport, logistics or heavy equipment industry.
• Extensive knowledge of fleet maintenance management.
• Strong leadership and people-management.
• Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Computer literate with a solid understanding of Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work under pressure and prioritise competing operational tasks.
• Experience managing a multi-skilled workshop.

• Previous experience working and living overseas
• Exposure to the transport, logistics or international freight
