Job summary

The Talent Room in Pretoria, Gauteng, seeks an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee workshop operations, manage technical staff and control costs and stock. You will ensure repairs and maintenance are performed to standard, while managing complex mechanical breakdowns and driving efficiency across the team.

Qualified candidates will have a diesel mechanic qualification, 8–10 years in the industry, and hands-on experience with Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Star Diagnostics.

Qualifications

• Diesel mechanic qualification required.
• Minimum 8–10 years in the industry.
• Experience with Mercedes-Benz Trucks and diagnostics.
• Ability to manage workshop staff and OT.
• Must be able to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day workshop operations, ensuring efficiency and quality.
• Mentor branch Workshop Foremen and guide technicians.
• Lead and monitor staff performance, allocate tasks and maintain productivity.
• Assist diagnosing complex faults and provide technical support.
• Ensure repairs meet manufacturer and company standards.
• Monitor workflow and turnaround times to meet deadlines.

Our client, a well-established business within the commercial vehicle and truck industry, is seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee workshop operations, manage technical staff, control costs and stock, and ensure the efficient handling of repairs, maintenance and mechanical breakdowns.

Description

• Oversee the overall day-to-day operation of the workshop and ensure that all work is completed efficiently, accurately and to the required standard.
• Oversee other branch Workshop Foremen and act as a mentor, providing technical guidance, support and assistance where required.
• Lead, manage and monitor workshop staff, ensuring that tasks are allocated effectively and that productivity and workmanship standards are maintained.
• Assist with diagnosing complex mechanical faults and provide technical support to technicians and Workshop Foremen when required.
• Ensure that vehicles are repaired and maintained according to manufacturer and company standards.
• Monitor workshop workflow, job progress and turnaround times to ensure that vehicles are completed within agreed timeframes.

Requirements

• Diesel Mechanic qualification
• Prior managerial experience
• 8-10 years' industry experience
• Knowledge and experience working on Mercedes-Benz Trucks
• Ability to work with the Mercedes Star Diagnostics Computer System
• Bodywork and welding skills
• Valid South African EC Driver's Licence
• Solid hard worker
• Ability to work under pressure
• Willingness to work overtime and ability to handle mechanical breakdowns
• Ability to control and manage workshop staff
• Own tools will be an advantage
