Job summary

The Talent Room is seeking a skilled Workshop Foreman to oversee day-to-day operations in our busy Gauteng workshop. You will mentor foremen, lead technicians and ensure repairs meet the highest standards, while maintaining productivity and efficiency.

Ideal candidates have a Diesel Mechanic qualification with 8–10 years of experience, Mercedes-Benz truck knowledge, and a valid EC licence. Welding skills and own tools are a plus; overtime willingness is essential.

Qualifications

• Diesel Mechanic qualification is required.
• 8-10 years' industry experience required.
• Experience with Mercedes-Benz Trucks essential.
• Valid South African EC Driver's Licence required.
• Welding and bodywork skills advantageous.
• Own tools advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day workshop operations and ensure work is completed efficiently and to standard.
• Mentor and guide Workshop Foremen and staff with technical support.
• Lead, manage and monitor workshop personnel and productivity.
• Assist diagnosing complex mechanical faults and support technicians.
• Ensure vehicle repairs meet manufacturer and company standards.
• Monitor workflow and turnaround times to complete vehicles on schedule.

Description:

• Oversee the overall day-to-day operation of the workshop and ensure that all work is completed efficiently, accurately and to the required standard.
• Oversee other branch Workshop Foremen and act as a mentor, providing technical guidance, support and assistance where required.
• Lead, manage and monitor workshop staff, ensuring that tasks are allocated effectively and that productivity and workmanship standards are maintained.
• Assist with diagnosing complex mechanical faults and provide technical support to technicians and Workshop Foremen when required.
• Ensure that vehicles are repaired and maintained according to manufacturer and company standards.
• Monitor workshop workflow, job progress and turnaround times to ensure that vehicles are completed within agreed timeframes.

Requirements:

• Diesel Mechanic qualification
• Prior managerial experience
• 8-10 years' industry experience
• Knowledge and experience working on Mercedes-Benz Trucks
• Ability to work with the Mercedes Star Diagnostics Computer System
• Bodywork and welding skills
• Valid South African EC Driver's Licence
• Solid hard worker
• Ability to work under pressure
• Willingness to work overtime and ability to handle mechanical breakdowns
• Ability to control and manage workshop staff
• Own tools will be an advantage
