Job summary

The Talent Room is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic and Workshop Foreman to oversee daily operations of the workshop in South Africa. You will mentor foremen, manage technicians, diagnose complex faults, and ensure repairs adhere to Mercedes-Benz truck standards.

Candidates should have extensive diesel mechanic qualifications, hands-on welding and bodywork skills, and the ability to work under pressure with overtime flexibility. EC licence is required and tools are a plus.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years’ industry experience.
• Knowledge and experience working on Mercedes-Benz Trucks.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Willingness to work overtime and handle mechanical breakdowns.
• Own tools will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operation of workshop ensuring efficiency and quality.
• Mentor and manage workshop foremen and staff.
• Diagnose complex faults and provide technical guidance.
• Ensure repairs meet manufacturer and company standards.
• Monitor workflow, progress and turnaround times.

• Oversee the overall day-to-day operation of the workshop and ensure that all work is completed efficiently, accurately and to the required standard.
• Oversee other branch Workshop Foremen and act as a mentor, providing technical guidance, support and assistance where required.
• Lead, manage and monitor workshop staff, ensuring that tasks are allocated effectively and that productivity and workmanship standards are maintained.
• Assist with diagnosing complex mechanical faults and provide technical support to technicians and Workshop Foremen when required.
• Ensure that vehicles are repaired and maintained according to manufacturer and company standards.
• Monitor workshop workflow, job progress and turnaround times to ensure that vehicles are completed within agreed timeframes.

Requirements:

• Diesel Mechanic qualification
• Prior managerial experience
• 8–10 years’ industry experience
• Knowledge and experience working on Mercedes-Benz Trucks
• Ability to work with the Mercedes Star Diagnostics Computer System
• Bodywork and welding skills
• Valid South African EC Driver’s Licence
• Solid hard worker
• Ability to work under pressure
• Willingness to work overtime and ability to handle mechanical breakdowns
• Ability to control and manage workshop staff
• Own tools will be an advantage
