Job summary

Placements24 in Bloemfontein is seeking a Water Resources Engineer specializing in hydrology to join our client’s consultancy. The role focuses on hydrology, water management, drought mitigation, flood protection, and optimizing water infrastructure for urban and rural areas, with a hybrid site/office pattern in the Free State.

You’ll work on hydrological studies, water balance models, and hydraulic design for dams, pipelines, and treatment facilities, collaborating with engineers and planners

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources or Hydrology.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in water resources engineering, hydrology, and hydraulic design.
• Proficiency in hydrological and hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, or similar.
• Experience with water infrastructure design, including dams, pipelines, and treatment facilities.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex hydrological data.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hydrological studies and analyze rainfall, runoff, and groundwater data to assess water availability and risks.
• Design and manage infrastructure for water supply, distribution, stormwater management, and flood control.
• Develop water balance models and optimize water resource allocation strategies.
• Perform hydraulic modeling and analysis for rivers, channels, and drainage systems.
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, and design drawings for water resource projects.
• Collaborate with environmental scientists, urban planners, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated water management solutions.
