Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Water Resource Management Specialist for an NGO in Upington, Northern Cape. You will develop integrated water resource plans, monitor water quality and quantity, and engage with communities, farmers, industries, and government agencies.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in Hydrology or related field, 4+ years of experience, strong data analysis, GIS proficiency, and excellent report writing. Travel within the Upington region is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, Water Resource Management, or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in water resource management or related discipline.
• Strong understanding of hydrological principles, water quality monitoring, and water law in South Africa.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills; ability to communicate complex technical information.

Responsibilities

• Develop integrated water resource management plans for the Northern Cape region.
• Conduct hydrological studies to monitor water availability, quality, and usage patterns.
• Analyze environmental data related to water resources, identifying trends and potential risks.
• Develop strategies for sustainable water use, conservation, and protection of aquatic ecosystems.
• Engage with local communities, farmers, industries, and government agencies on water-related issues.
• Provide technical guidance on water management policies and regulations.
• Organize workshops and training on water conservation and management best practices.
• Prepare technical reports, scientific papers, and policy briefs for various audiences.
• Collaborate with research institutions and other organizations on water resource projects.
• Respond to water-related emergencies and assist in contingency planning.
