Job summary

Protea Placements in Hermanus is seeking an experienced Unit Accountant to join a prestigious hotel. The role covers day-to-day hotel accounting, month-end reporting, debtors and creditors, and financial controls.

You will work closely with the Hotel General Manager and finance team; the ideal candidate has at least 2 years GL and high-volume experience, proficiency in Excel, and familiarity with Xero and Opera.

Qualifications

• Accounting qualification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years’ General Ledger and high-volume accounting experience.
• Hotel or hospitality experience advantageous.
• Strong financial and analytical skills.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel.
• Experience with Xero and Opera.
• MyMicros, Symphony or MyInventory advantageous.
• Strong understanding of financial controls.
• High level of confidentiality and attention to detail.
• Excellent organisation and deadline management.

Responsibilities

• Manage the hotel’s day-to-day accounting function.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Bank, petty cash and credit card reconciliations.
• Manage debtors, creditors and payment processes.
• Monitor revenue, night audit and daily financial controls.
• Oversee stock, inventory and operational equipment controls.
• Prepare gross profit and trading reports.
• Assist with annual budgets and business planning.
• Ensure VAT, PAYE and financial compliance requirements are maintained.
• Work closely with the Hotel General Manager, CEO and finance team.
