Job summary

Tharisa Plc seeks an experienced professional to lead ventilation and occupational hygiene systems at the Tharisa Minerals underground operations. The role covers strategic planning, survey scheduling, problem solving in ventilation factors, and ensuring compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act and other regulations.

The incumbent will oversee ventilation construction programs, emergency planning updates, and reporting, while driving cost-efficient designs for airways, fans and refrigeration,

Responsibilities

• Conduct ventilation and occupational hygiene strategic planning
• Ensure routine survey schedules exist
• Effectively manage Ventilation resources by providing guidance and direction
• Investigate and solve serious problems in ventilation or occupational hygiene factors (e.g., airflow changes, temperature rises, gas intersections) at Tharisa UG shafts
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of underground main and auxiliary fans and dust suppression systems for compliance with Mine standards and legislation
• Investigate and provide recommendations on ventilation designs and technologies
• Devise contingency plans for underground fires, including evacuation plans and zoning
• Update Incident Control Room emergency planning information quarterly
• Coordinate ventilation construction programs for effective ventilation of all working areas
• Ensure occupational hygiene monitoring functions and audits are conducted within prescribed timeframes
• Ensure effective ventilation and occupational hygiene control and reporting
• Provide specialist knowledge to management to resolve hygiene-related issues
• Compile blasting schedules and re-entry intervals to validate set times
• Implement and manage heat and cold stress management
• Minimize operating costs by designing appropriate airway/fan/refrigeration sizes
• Address pollutants to prevent health hazards and ensure comprehensive health risk assessments
• Ensure timely compilation and submission of all relevant reports to applicable departments
