Job summary

Redpath Mining South Africa (Pty) Ltd – Northam Development is seeking an Artisan Fitter to perform maintenance, testing and commissioning of mechanical installations in an underground, trackless development environment. You will ensure safe operation and compliance with MHSA regulations, while coordinating with the Mechanical Foreman.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of underground trackless experience, a sectional trade test, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Matric certificate or equivalent.
• Section 13 Trade Test or Section 26D as a qualified fitter and/or diesel mechanic.
• Competent B is advantageous.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Medically fit to work underground.
• At least 3 years’ underground trackless development experience.
• Knowledge of Mine, Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
• Experience with trackless equipment from major OEMs (Sandvik, Epiroc, Normet) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Report on all incidents and accidents
• Risk assessments must be carried out for each task
• Ensure tools and equipment are sufficient, in good condition and safe to use
• All legal inspections must be carried out according to the time intervals and true reports are recorded in the record book
• Report and act on all unsafe conditions and unsafe acts
• Be responsible for his/her sub-ordinates, maintenance schedule is to be adhered to.
• Ensure that all the spares and tools are available for the service
• Ensure that the housekeeping in the workshop/working area is adequate to conduct maintenance work.
