Job summary

SA Metal Group (Pty) Ltd in Cape Town is seeking a qualified Fitter to join the Fitters team in the Engineering Department. You will inspect production machinery, perform preventative maintenance, and handle hydraulic systems, belts, rollers, and lubrication.

Breakdown support and safety compliance are key parts of the role. The ideal candidate holds a Red Seal Fitter Artisan qualification, a minimum of Grade 12, and at least 5 years in heavy industry.

Qualifications

• Qualified Fitter Artisan with Red Seal certification.
• Grade 12 or equivalent minimum.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in heavy industry or similar.
• Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Strong hydraulic background preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct mechanical inspections on production machinery as required.
• Adhere to in-house maintenance program and procedures.
• Perform planned and preventative maintenance: hydraulic systems, belts, lubrication, rollers, V-belts.
• Attend breakdowns on production machinery and fault-find hydraulics.
• Assemble and pressure test hydraulic cylinders; service hydraulic components.
• Coach semi-skilled staff; maintain safety per OHS Act.
