Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Chief Surveyor to lead the underground surveying team near Mossel Bay, Western Cape. You will ensure accurate survey data, establish control networks, and provide spatial information for mine planning, development and production.

The ideal candidate holds a Mine Surveying/Geomatics degree, PLATO registration, 8+ years in mine surveying, and strong leadership with proficiency in Trimble TB, Leica Infinity, AutoCAD and laser scanning. On-site role with a strong safety focus.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years post-qualification experience in mine surveying, with underground exposure.
• Registration as Mine Surveyor with PLATO is mandatory.
• Experience with underground survey control, traverse adjustments, and spatial data management.
• Strong leadership, communication skills and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Oversee underground mine surveying across control, development and production surveys.
• Establish and maintain primary and secondary survey control networks within the mine.
• Conduct high-precision surveys for tunnels and stopes.
• Manage surveying equipment and technologies (total stations, laser scanners, GPS/GNSS).
• Process and interpret survey data to produce mine plans, sections, and volumes.
• Collaborate with mine planners, geologists and engineers to provide spatial data.
• Ensure ore reserve and production reporting accuracy through surveys.
• Develop and implement survey standards, procedures and QC measures.
• Lead and mentor a team of surveyors and technicians.
• Ensure compliance with legal/regulatory requirements for mine surveying.
