Placements24 is seeking a Mine Operations Superintendent for its Vereeniging, Gauteng operation. The role leads underground mining production, safety, and cost-efficiency, directing a large team of professionals to meet targets while complying with regulatory standards.

You will drive continuous improvement and collaborate with planning, geology, and maintenance to ensure integrated operations and safe, productive performance in a major mining group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• Postgraduate qualification or Pr.Eng desirable.
• Min 10 years in mining operations with 5+ in supervisory/management roles.
• Experience in underground mining methods (stoping, drifting, caving).
• Strong knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and environmental practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily underground mine operations including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and ground support.
• Achieve production targets in volume, grade, and cost.
• Enforce safety protocols and environmental standards across all areas.
• Manage and develop a team of mining supervisors, engineers, and staff.
• Optimize resource utilization to minimize costs and maximize output.
• Collaborate with mine planning, geology, and maintenance for integrated operations.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and implement corrective actions.
• Manage budgets and capital expenditure for the mining section.
• Investigate incidents and safety deviations; uphold safety culture.
