Placements24 is collaborating with a Mossel Bay-based mining entity to recruit a Mine Operations Superintendent. The role oversees daily underground operations, safety, and productivity, leading miners, operators and supervisors to achieve targets.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in mine operations, including 3+ in supervision, with strong leadership, safety culture, and knowledge of underground mining techniques. A focus on continuous improvement and cost control is essential.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering, Mine Surveying, or related technical field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in mine operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Proven experience in managing underground mining operations (specify type if applicable).
• In-depth knowledge of mining equipment, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements in South Africa.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage teams, resolve conflicts, and motivate personnel.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities under pressure.
• Proficiency in mine operations software and reporting tools.
• First Aid and Mine Rescue qualifications are advantageous.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise all daily mining operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling.
• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Develop and implement operational plans to meet production targets and quality standards.
• Manage shift schedules, personnel deployment, and resource allocation effectively.
• Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
• Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and employee engagement.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Train and mentor operational staff, ensuring competency and skill development.
• Collaborate with mine planning and engineering teams to optimize mining methods and sequences.
• Manage operational budgets and control costs effectively.
