Placements24 seeks a Mine Operations Superintendent to oversee day-to-day mining activities near Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role requires strong leadership to manage production, personnel, equipment and safety across open-pit operations.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 6 years in supervisory roles within mining, with a solid grasp of planning, scheduling and budgets, and holds a Mining Engineering or related degree. A valid driver's license is essential and First Aid is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Leadership and supervisory capabilities in mining operations.
• Experience in budgeting and cost control within mining.
• Proven ability to plan and schedule production.
• Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental regulations in SA mining.
• Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage daily mining operations (drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, in-situ processing).
• Supervise and develop mine supervisors, operators, and staff.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental policies and procedures.
• Monitor equipment performance and coordinate with maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Develop and manage operational budgets and identify efficiency gains.
• Collaborate with mine planning, engineering and geology teams.
• Conduct site inspections and safety audits; address hazards and non-compliance.
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of mining methods and practices.
• Report performance metrics and challenges to senior management.
