Job summary

Transnet SOC Ltd seeks an Able Seafarer (Deck or Engine) to operate within port operations—handling ropes, wires, winches and capstans while performing routine maintenance on deck and engine spaces. You will participate in safety drills, lookouts and resource management with senior officers to ensure safe vessel operations.

The role emphasizes practical seamanship, basic mechanical and electrical skills, and strong teamwork, with compliance to OHS and SOLAS policies in a busy port environment.

Qualifications

• Valid Certificate of proficiency as an Able Seafarer Deck or Engine.
• Knowledge of deck/engine room working practices as contained in training manuals.
• Safe working practices awareness and ability to use own initiative.

Responsibilities

• To serve as an Able Seafarer on Tug, Launch, Pilot Boat, Work Boat or Floating Crane within port operations area.
• Safely handle and operate ropes, wires, winches, capstans and deck equipment during shipping operations.
• Carry out maintenance on deck and engine spaces and perform housekeeping to ensure safe, reliable service.
