About the Role

Our client, a prominent engineering and planning firm, is seeking a skilled Transportation Engineer to join their growing team in Upington, Northern Cape . This hybrid role offers a blend of office-based work in Upington and remote flexibility, focusing on the planning and design of road networks and transportation systems. You will be involved in a range of projects, from local road improvements to regional network development, contributing to safer, more efficient, and sustainable transportation solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, proficiency in transportation modelling software, and a keen understanding of traffic engineering principles. We are looking for a dedicated professional who can contribute to enhancing the connectivity and mobility within the Northern Cape and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct traffic studies, demand forecasting, and network analysis.
• Develop conceptual and detailed designs for road alignments, intersections, and interchanges.
• Prepare traffic management plans and road safety audits.
• Utilise transportation planning and modelling software (e.g., VISSIM, SIDRA INTERSECTION, TransCAD).
• Liaise with clients, municipal authorities, and other stakeholders to gather project requirements and present findings.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant South African road design standards and guidelines.
• Collaborate with civil engineers, urban planners, and other professionals on integrated projects.
• Prepare technical reports, design documentation, and presentations.
• Assist in the preparation of tender documents and provide technical support during the construction phase.
• Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in transportation engineering.

Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering, with a specialisation in Transportation Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as Pr. Eng. or eligible to register is preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in transportation planning and road design.
• Proficiency in traffic simulation and analysis software.
• Experience with CAD software for road design and drafting.
• Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, road safety, and geometric design.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
• Effective communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work model, balancing office and remote tasks.
• Must reside in or be willing to commute to Upington, Northern Cape .
