Job summary

Abantu Staffing Solutions in Pretoria seeks a Tooling Engineer to design, specify and implement production tools aligned with planning, quality and cost targets. You will coordinate with product design teams and manage tool definitions in the PDM system.

The role requires a degree or diploma in engineering with a tool/ die background, 5 years in manufacturing (preferably automotive), and strong communication skills. A valid driver’s license and own transport are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or diploma with relevant trade test in tooling.
• Minimum 5 years' manufacturing experience, preferably in automotive.
• Knowledge of project management processes.
• Knowledge of production system efficiency basics.
• Results-oriented with strong written and oral communication.
• International mindset.
• Fluent in English.
• Valid driver’s license and own transport.

Responsibilities

• Design, specify, follow-up and implement production tools meeting planning, quality and cost targets.
• Gather input from product design teams.
• Manage process definition and release of tool definitions in the PDM system.
• Prepare and maintain tool documentation for final tool acceptance.
• Propose and implement product and process improvements to meet geometric requirements.
• Serve as technical liaison for tool supplier.
• Make tools available for plants to control product and process characteristics.
• Apply group standards and internal/industrial standards.
• Supervise tool room staff; assign tasks and monitor progress.
• Ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.
• Oversee maintenance of injection moulds to minimize downtime.
• Inspect moulds for wear and accuracy.
• Collaborate with quality and production to resolve mould issues.
• Enforce safety in the tool room and mould handling.
• Prepare reports on tool room activities, downtime and costs.
• Keep management informed of critical issues and improvement opportunities.
• Reduce waste and ensure safe disposal of hazardous waste.
• Contribute to pollution prevention actions.
• Comply with statutory and regulatory requirements and HSE system.
