Abantu Staffing Solutions in Pretoria seeks a Tooling Engineer to design, specify and implement production tools aligned with planning, quality and cost targets. You will coordinate with product design teams and manage tool definitions in the PDM system.
The role requires a degree or diploma in engineering with a tool/ die background, 5 years in manufacturing (preferably automotive), and strong communication skills. A valid driver’s license and own transport are advantageous.
Degree/ Diploma in Engineering/ Trade Test in Tool and Die Making/ Millwright
At least 5 years of experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the automotive sector
Knowledge and experience in the project management process
Knowledge of production system efficiency basics
Results-oriented with strong written and oral communication skills
International mindset
Fluent in the English language
Valid driver’s license and own transport
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the design, specification, follow-up and implementation of the production tools, in line with planning, quality (including industry standards) and cost targets
Gather input from the product design teams
Manage process definition and ensure release of tools definition in appropriate product data management (PDM) system
Prepare and maintain the integrity of tool documentation for final tool acceptance
Propose and implement product and process improvements to fulfil geometric requirements
Act as the technical correspondent for the tool supplier (tooling offers and technical design analysis)
Make tools available for plants so that product and process characteristics are under control
Apply group standards under the company's system as well as other internal and industrial standards
Supervise tool room staff
Assign daily tasks, monitor work progress, and ensure adherence to quality and safety standards
Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of injection moulds to minimize production downtime
Inspect moulds for wear, damages, and dimensional accuracy before and after use
Work closely with quality and production teams to resolve mould-related quality issues
Enforce strict safety protocols in the tool room and during mould handling
Prepare reports on tool room activities, mould performance, downtime and maintenance costs
Keep management informed of critical issues and improvement opportunities
Continually reduce the generation of waste and ensure safe disposal of hazardous waste
Contribute towards actions to measures to prevents pollution
Comply with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
Comply with operational HSE requirements as per the HSE system
