Job summary

Staff Solutions in South Africa is seeking an experienced Toolmaker to join our tooling team. You will perform routine servicing, regrinding, and repairs of tools and dies, attending breakdowns and solving faults to keep production running smoothly.

You will plan repairs, report root causes, participate in FMEA, and support new tooling trials. The role emphasizes safety, cost awareness, and continuous improvement while leading and training technicians in the group.

Qualifications

• Trade-tested toolmakers with experience in new projects and tool maintenance/repair.
• Experience in manufacturing environments and ability to meet tight production targets.
• Understanding of 5S, continuous improvement, and basic cost concepts.
• Experience in project management or working in project teams, with ability to deliver on deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Routine servicing and regrinding of tools and die repairs.

Job Description:

• Routine servicing and regrinding of tools
• Repair and maintenance of press tools / die repairs
• Attend breakdowns, identify faults and problem solve at the press with minimal downtime to aid production
• Plan repair work, report on breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to management
• Identify and elevate any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage
• Operate Forklift truck and lifting equipment
• In new tooling - support new tooling and ancillary spares to support production activity and customer deadlines - assist in tooling buyoffs and trials
• Ensure adherence to Quality Management system requirements - participate in carrying out FMEA/related activities; carry out and document engineering level changes to tools and modifications
• Test tools (electrical and hydraulic/pneumatic operation) before returning to production document
• Understand and operate within budget/cost measures for tooling
• Active involvement in continuous improvement activities
• Active involvement in safety - eg. ensure risk assessments are available, read and understood for each activity undertaken & promote environmental issues - ensure all
  company procedures re environment are understood and followed. Ensure safe working environment exists for self and colleagues - compliance to all legislation & procedures
• Lead and train/support technicians or trainees in own work group

Job Requirements:

• Trade-tested and experienced Toolmakers (new projects and tool maintenance/repair) is essential
• Previous industry / product related experience preferential
• Valid forklift and crane licenses highly advantageous
• Essential is the applicants understanding of manufacturing techniques & 5S processes; principles of continuous improvement, fundamental financial/cost concepts
• Experience in project management/project team participation - inclusive of working to tight production/project targets, is essential to this position
