Job summary

Express Employment Professionals Midrand is seeking a shop floor operator to lift and assemble machined parts, set up drill presses, and read engineering drawings in a Centurion workshop.

You will verify dimensions with calipers and micrometers, lay out raw material, perform hand and machine tool work, and maintain housekeeping, safety, and accurate time sheets. Overtime and night shifts may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lift and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle parts.
• Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes for assembly.
• Study and read engineering drawings or specifications to plan operations.
• Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances with calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
• Lay out the engineering drawings design on the raw material, then cut it to size and shape using manually controlled machine tools, power tools, and hand tools.
• Maintain housekeeping in the workshop and observe health and safety protocols at all times.
• Overtime/night shifts/weekends may be required to meet operational requirements.
• Report problems or errors promptly and fulfill any reasonable request.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Lift position and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle parts. Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly. Study and read engineering drawings and sketches, or specifications to plan the operation Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. Lay out the engineering drawings design on the raw material, then cut it to size and shape using manually controlled machine tools, power tools, and hand tools. Complete other assignments and special projects as requested. Work unsupervised when necessary. Polish or texture moulds to specification using manual abrasives and power tools. Assemble machined/Fabricated parts to form complete moulds to specifications. Fabricate parts by hand to meet operational requirements. Maintain housekeeping at all times in the workshop. Where necessary, make deliveries or do collections. Monitor stock levels and notify the supervisor accordingly so as to maintain productivity. Maintenance of moulds/Tools and necessary equipment. Maintenance of machines when necessary. Maintenance of machine tools and tips. Maintain and file Job cards accordingly. Work overtime/weekends when needed to meet operational requirements. Work night shift when needed to meet operational requirements. Maintain PPE at all times. Observe health and safety protocols at all times. Observe the allotted time for each job. Maintain accurate time sheets. Exercise due diligence when planning/executing tasks. Report any problems or errors immediately. Fulfill any reasonable request.
