Job summary

Defy Appliances in KwaZulu-Natal seeks a skilled Tool, Die and Jig maker to maintain tooling for plastic injection and metal press operations. The role demands 5+ years in mould tooling, CNC experience, and CAD/CAM proficiency.

You will work shifts, perform tool fabrication, and support equipment upgrades while ensuring quality and safety standards. Applicants must read schematics, draft drawings, and operate related machinery.

Qualifications

• Matric certificate and trade qualification in tooling.
• 5+ years in plastic injection moulding and metal press tooling.
• Maintenance experience and willingness to learn.
• Good communication skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Experience with press/injection moulding machines and CAD/CAM.

Responsibilities

• Conduct planned maintenance on press and plastic mould tools.
• Adhere to health, safety and housekeeping standards.
• Develop / fabricate new equipment and improve efficiency.
• Repair breakdowns and support machine setup for tools.
• Train subordinates and liaise with departments on requirements.
• Work a three-shift pattern with standby and overtime.

Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct planned maintenance on press and plastic mould tools
• Conduct planned maintenance schedules,
• Improve operational efficiency,
• Ensure effective quality,
• Ensure cost effective replacements of tools,
• Maintenance of tools, jigs and dies to the maximum up time,
• Adhere to company health and safety and housekeeping standards,
• Develop / fabricate new equipment,
• Liaise with relevant departments regarding their specific requirements and train subordinates,
• Limit reworks and non-conforming product,
• Problem solving on tools, jigs, dies and related machine setting.
• Work a three-shift pattern, standby and overtime,
• Repair breakdowns and assist on machine (Press and injection moulding machines) to ensure correct use and setup of tool moulds.
• Efficient work standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Matric certificate,
• Trade tested Tool, Die and Jig maker,
• At least 5 years industry experience in plastic injection moulding and metal press tool.
• Previous maintenance experience and a willingness to learn,
• Good communication skills,
• Press and Injection moulding machine experience.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• CNC Experience, (Milling machine and Wire cutter)
• Read, understand, and draft technical drawings.
• CAD (Computer Aided Design)/CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture)
