The ideal candidate has 5+ years in telecom project management, with fibre deployment expertise, and is comfortable in a hybrid role combining on-site coordination with remote planning and reporting.

Qualifications

• PMP or equivalent certification is highly desirable.

About the Role

Our client, a key infrastructure provider in the telecommunications sector, is seeking a seasoned Telecommunications Project Manager to oversee large-scale fibre optic rollout projects in the Paarl, Western Cape region. This role is responsible for the end-to-end management of projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex telecommunications projects, excellent leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of fibre deployment methodologies. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work closely with site teams while enjoying the flexibility of remote work for planning and reporting activities in the beautiful Western Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all phases of telecommunications projects, from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring, and closure.
• Develop detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, resource allocation, and budgets.
• Coordinate and manage cross-functional project teams, including engineers, technicians, contractors, and external stakeholders.
• Oversee the deployment of fibre optic networks, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and safety standards.
• Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and issues, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure financial objectives are met.
• Communicate project status, key milestones, and critical issues to senior management and stakeholders.
• Ensure all projects comply with relevant regulations, permits, and quality standards.
• Manage vendor and contractor performance, ensuring deliverables meet contractual obligations.
• Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and areas for continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, specifically within the telecommunications industry, with a focus on fibre optic deployments.
• Proven experience managing projects with budgets exceeding R5 million.
• Strong understanding of fibre optic technologies, network infrastructure, and construction processes.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Asana, Jira).
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
• PMP or equivalent project management certification is highly desirable.
• Experience working in a hybrid work model, demonstrating effective time management and remote collaboration.
• Knowledge of the local regulatory and permitting landscape in the Paarl and wider Western Cape area.
