About the Role

Our client, a prominent telecommunications infrastructure provider, is seeking a skilled Telecommunications Network Technician to join their team serving the Paarl, Western Cape region. This role is essential for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications networks, including fiber optics, wireless infrastructure, and associated equipment. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliable connectivity and optimal performance of networks critical to businesses and residents. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of network technologies, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to quality workmanship. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a rapidly evolving industry within the Paarl and surrounding Winelands areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cables and associated equipment (e.g., splicing, connectorization).
• Deploy and maintain wireless communication systems, including antennas, radios, and access points.
• Install and configure network hardware such as routers, switches, and modems.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on network infrastructure to ensure reliability and performance.
• Diagnose and resolve network issues, including connectivity problems, signal degradation, and equipment malfunctions.
• Read and interpret network diagrams, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Document all installation, maintenance, and repair activities accurately.
• Ensure all work complies with company standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
• Respond to service calls and emergency network disruptions in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with other technical teams and management to achieve project goals and maintain network integrity.
• Operate specialized testing equipment for signal analysis and fault finding.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in telecommunications network installation and maintenance.
• Proven experience with fiber optic cable installation, splicing, and testing.
• Knowledge of wireless communication technologies (e.g., LTE, Wi-Fi, microwave).
• Familiarity with network hardware configuration (routers, switches).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Strong understanding of telecommunications network principles and protocols.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing time effectively.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call duties.
• Must be based in or able to reliably commute to Paarl, Western Cape.
