Responsibilities
- Evaluate, validate and report analytical results;
- Evaluate and ensure technical accuracy of analytical results reported;
- Monitor analytical processes and take remedial action where deviations / discrepancies arise impacting on the quality of analytical results;
- Consult with the section manager to address retests, result anomalies or other problems with samples or analyses;
- Report any apparatus or equipment which, to your knowledge, is not functioning correctly to the section manager;
- Use SLIM for data transfers as required;
- Recording and filing of all equipment records for quality purposes;
- Ensure proper sample disposal and waste and effluent control;
- Re-analyze analysis samples when control results are not within the control charts limits;
- Assist with stock verification, stock counts and stock inventory control;
- Overseeing the cleaning of the laboratory and immediate working area;
- Ensure that quality procedures are complied with;
- Ensure compliance with the Laboratory Health and Safety Act;
- Perform duties on all relevant workstations as required by the departmental workload;
- Must be willing to work overtime whenever necessary;
- Assist on any lower or above level when necessary;
- Deputize for the section supervisor when required;
- Assist with the training of new staff / operators on new methods and / or procedures;
- Assist with control and time keeping administration;
- Assist with overtime planning in consultation with the section manager;
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
Qualifications
Education
- Minimum Grade12 / Matric or N3 with Mathematics and Science as subjects or N Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
Experience
- At least five years Fire assay laboratory experience;
- Computer Literate in LIMS, Microsoft Word and Excel.

- Competent technical knowledge of Fire Assay analytical processes;
- Able to work with technical and management staff;
- Able to coordinate fire assay activities;
- Able to work independently and to coordinate several activities simultaneously;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Assists with trouble shooting and problem solving;
- Can fluently communicate English.
