Job summary

Premier FMCG is seeking an experienced Millwright/Maintenance Technician to perform electrical and mechanical maintenance, fault-finding and repairs on plant machinery to maximise uptime and reliability.

You will inspect, troubleshoot, and service boilers, water and ammonia plant operations, air systems, compressors and pasteurizers, while coordinating with production to minimise downtime and maintain safety standards. A commitment to training junior staff is required.

Qualifications

• Millwright trade certificate with N3 qualification.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience as Technician/Millwright, preferably in a food or beverage manufacturing environment.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical breakdowns and malfunctions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of all machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
• Perform both electrical and mechanical fault-finding on systems such as Boilers (Coal and Oil), Water Plant Operations, Ammonia Plant Operations, Air Supply Systems, General Electrical installations, Compressors and Pasteurizers.
• Execute regular preventive and safety maintenance tasks, including refurbishing, rebuilding, and replacing parts as needed.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate repairs with the production team to minimize downtime.
• Maintain and upgrade electrical works.
• Carry out maintenance and repairs in other departments (e.g. pumps, agitators, hydro lifts, flow meters).
• Ensure proper use of tools and maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, including costs, parts used, and time spent.
• Communicate regularly with production teams for feedback and coordination of maintenance activities.
• Support and train junior maintenance staff, assessing their development and skill levels.
• Be available for standby and after-hours support as part of a rotating schedule.

Experience And Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Millwright Trade Certificate with a minimum N3 qualification
• Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Technician/ Millwright, preferably in a food or beverage manufacturing environment with exposure to Processing Plant experience.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical breakdowns and malfunctions

Skills and Competencies

• Strong electrical and mechanical maintenance, fault-finding and troubleshooting skills, including control panels, switchgear and processing equipment.
• Ability to diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes and implement effective corrective and preventive maintenance solutions.
• Strong planning, time management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple maintenance tasks and meet deadlines.
• Strong safety awareness, attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship, accurate maintenance records and equipment reliability, including availability for standby and after-hours support.
