Overview
To provide guidance to business on the strategic direction as it pertains to fleet, tyres, maintenance and workshops. Responsible for continuous improvement in safety and optimal use of advances in digitization and technology in support of group initiatives.
Key Accountabilities
- Implement corporate governance and compliance policies in order to manage risk liabilities
- Analyse, interpret and produce detailed reports explaining trends, discrepancies and inconsistencies measured against planned activities
- Develop and ensure implementation of people capacity plans in line with performance objectives
- Develop initiatives to enhance customer service excellence
- Develop and implement a medium term technical strategy taking into consideration the fleet depreciation, replacement and disposal policies ensuring a continuously reduction in carbon footprint and overall reduction in total cost of ownership
- Optimise the group maintenance and workshops ensuring the business remains competitive and aligned with global trends
- Engage suppliers or original equipment manufacturer on technical matters, such as product performance, warranties, technical issues and recalls
- Manage supplier SLA and KPI performance targets through monthly review meetings and annual SLA review negotiations.
- Maintain supplier relationships and promote reciprocal opportunities
- Chair the Group Technical Steering Committee with effective quarterly meetings and develop relevant KPIs for evaluation
- Maintain accurate and relevant fleet, vehicle maintenance and tyre statistics and analysis and present actionable insights to the Group Technical Steering Committee and business unit forums
- Implement and maintain workshop and tyre management systems and ensure that adequate support and training is provided to business units
- Own and update the business fleet asset register
- Develop and implement policies and practices in business units to align with the business strategy and policies
- Engage with logistics industry and regulatory bodies to stay abreast of and influence trends
- Remain on the cutting edge of developments in digitisation and technology and investigate and test these advancements in order to achieve the business strategy
- Evaluate performance and fuel consumption of new fleet on routes
- Conduct internal workshop audits and technical due diligence on business acquisitions
- Management of the internal warranty fund
- Advise operating companies on capital budgets including the preparation for AFE approvals
- Manage the annual capital expenditure within the approved budget limits
- Effective management of fleet acquisitions and disposals for the business including AFE motivations
- Support business units to achieve performance improvement targets
- Advise operating companies on bespoke fleet solutions for new initiatives aligned with the overall group strategy
- Coordinate driver training initiatives between original equipment manufacturer, driver training department and business units
- Assist business units in evaluating relevant driver complaints and accident reporting
- Implement and manage workforce planning, recruitment, learning and development, performance management, reward and recognition and employee relations to ensure an optimal working environment
- Create an engaging, enabling and productive work climate aligned to the employee value proposition by demonstrating leadership through personal commitment to organisational values
- Develop a plan for practice changes and specify the priorities of delivery plans and resources needed 1 to 2 years
- Contribute to the setting of budgets, minimise expenditure and manage costs and assets effectively
- Develop and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders that contributes to a culture of customer service excellence
- Evaluate metrics, report on campaign results and determine ROI
Qualifications
Skills and Experience
- Up to 5 years of experience in a similar environment with at least 2 years tactical leadership or specialist experience.
- Advanced budgeting and cost management knowledge and / or skill.
- Advanced business and operations management knowledge and / or skill.
- Advanced people management and development knowledge and / or skill.
- Proficient labour relations procedures knowledge and / or skill.
- Proficient business knowledge and / or skill.
- Advanced vehicle components and related regulations knowledge and / or skill.
- Advanced parts and parts management knowledge and / or skill.
- Advanced fleet management operations knowledge and / or skill.
