Seeking an experienced Technical Buyer to source engineering materials, components, consumables and services for a manufacturing and engineering environment. This is a hands‑on role with a strong focus on placing accurate orders, following up with suppliers and ensuring materials arrive when needed. The successful candidate must understand technical requirements, negotiate competitive pricing and actively manage outstanding orders to support production and project deadlines. The role offers a stable working environment, a supportive team and a guaranteed 13th cheque.
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma or Certificate in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ procurement or technical buying experience within an engineering, manufacturing, industrial, mining or refurbishment environment.
- Experience sourcing technical components, engineering materials, consumables and services.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and bills of materials.
- Proven experience placing purchase orders, following up with suppliers and expediting outstanding deliveries.
- Familiarity with ERP procurement systems.
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Experience comparing quotations, negotiating prices and evaluating supplier quality and delivery commitments.
- An established network of relevant local suppliers.
- Strong planning, attention to detail and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Source technically suitable materials, components, equipment, consumables and services, primarily from local suppliers.
- Obtain and compare quotations based on price, quality, specifications and delivery times.
- Negotiate competitive pricing and suitable delivery arrangements.
- Create accurate purchase orders and place orders in time to meet operational requirements.
- Actively follow up on outstanding orders, including orders placed by other buyers.
- Confirm supplier delivery dates, monitor commitments and expedite urgent requirements.
- Identify potential delays early and communicate their impact to Procurement, Production and other relevant teams.
- Resolve supplier delays, incorrect deliveries, shortages and procurement‑related queries.
- Maintain existing supplier relationships and identify alternative suppliers when required.
- Work with Engineering and Production to clarify technical requirements and confirm suitable products.
- Support stock replenishment and identify critical material shortages or long lead‑time items.
- Coordinate with Quality on supplier non‑conformances and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate ERP records, supplier information and procurement documentation.
- Support cost savings, supplier performance improvements and better on-time delivery.
