Job summary

Kontak in Germiston is seeking an experienced Technical Buyer to source engineering materials, components, consumables and services for a manufacturing environment. This hands-on role focuses on placing accurate orders, supplier follow-ups and ensuring materials arrive when needed.

You will interpret engineering drawings and BOMs, negotiate pricing, expediting orders, and maintain ERP records to support production deadlines.

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of procurement or technical buying experience in engineering/manufacturing/mining/refurbishment environments.
Experience sourcing technical components, materials, consumables and services for engineering projects.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specs and BOMs.

Responsibilities

Source materials, components, equipment, consumables and services from local suppliers.
Obtain and compare quotations based on price, quality, specs and delivery times.
Negotiate pricing and suitable delivery arrangements.
Create accurate purchase orders and place orders to meet operational needs.
Follow up on outstanding orders and expedite where required.
Monitor supplier delivery dates and expedite urgent requirements.
Identify delays and communicate impact to stakeholders.
Resolve supplier issues including delays and non-conformances.
Maintain supplier relationships and explore alternative suppliers.
Collaborate with Engineering and Production to clarify requirements.
Support stock replenishment and identify long lead-time items.
Coordinate with Quality on supplier non-conformances.
