Job summary

On Consulting (Pty) Ltd is recruiting a Workshop Team Leader for a Dubai-based operation. You will oversee floor production, mentor technicians, and ensure high-quality, on‑time repairs using advanced diagnostic tools. A strong background in automotive diagnostics and team leadership is essential.

The role requires a Certified Trade Test/Red Seal and 5–8 years in a franchised workshop, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity. A Code B license and safety compliance are mandatory.

Qualifications

• Certification: Certified Trade Test / Red Seal (Automotive Motor Mechanic) is compulsory.
• OEM Master Technician or Senior Diagnostic status is advantageous.
• 5–8 years in a franchised dealership; 2+ years in supervisory/foreman roles.
• Strong diagnostic skills across electrical, mechanical, and engine management systems.
• Valid Code B driver's license for road testing.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily workflow across service bays; allocate tasks to Technicians/Apprentices to maximize hourly efficiency.
• Serve as technical authority for complex diagnostics with advanced scan tools.
• Perform rigorous stage-inspections and final road tests to meet manufacturer standards.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled, technically elite Workshop Team Leader to oversee and optimize our daily workshop floor operations. In this pivotal role, you will split your focus between diagnosing complex vehicle faults alongside your team and actively managing floor production. Your primary mission is to drive technician productivity, ensure strict quality control to eliminate "comebacks," mentor junior technicians, and maintain a highly disciplined, efficient, and safe workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Floor Production & Throughput: Oversee daily workflow across all service bays, assigning job cards to Technicians and Apprentices based on skill levels to maximize hourly efficiency and meet promised delivery times.
• Advanced Technical Support: Act as the premier technical authority on the floor, assisting technicians with complex diagnostic challenges (electrical, mechanical, CAN bus, or drivability faults) using advanced scan tools.
• Quality Control & Comeback Prevention: Conduct rigorous stage-inspections and final road tests on complex repairs to ensure all work meets strict manufacturer standards before the vehicle moves to valet or handover.
• Mentorship & Team Development: Provide active on-the-job training and mentorship to apprentice technicians, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and helping them track toward their trade tests.
• KPI Monitoring & Performance: Track and report on key workshop metrics, including technician clocking efficiency, productivity, and comeback rates, implementing corrective actions when targets fall short.
• Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, workshop cleanliness, and proper handling of tools and specialized machinery.

Requirements

• Certification: Certified Trade Test / Red Seal (Automotive Motor Mechanic) is compulsory . Holding an OEM Master Technician or Senior Diagnostic status is highly advantageous.
• Experience: Minimum of 5–8 years of hands‑on experience in a franchised dealership environment, with at least 2 years of proven experience in a supervisory, workshop foreman, or team leader capacity.
• Technical Mastery: Exceptional diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities across modern vehicle electrical, mechanical, and engine management systems.
• Leadership & Drive: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to command respect on the floor, motivate a diverse team under high-pressure conditions, and enforce workshop discipline.
• Systems Literacy: Proficient in using Dealer Management Systems (DMS) such as Automate, Kerridge, or Drive for job tracking, alongside basic MS Office skills.
• License: A valid, clean Driver’s License (Code B) is essential for vehicle road testing.
