In this role, you will manage the daily workflow of panel beaters, spray painters, prep technicians, and strip-and-assembly staff. Your mission is to maximize floor efficiency, ensure strict adherence to OEM repair methods, maintain aggressive cycle-time targets, and lead your team by example to deliver flawless structural and cosmetic repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Production & Floor Management: Oversee the daily workflow on the floor, assigning tasks to panel beaters and spray painters based on target completion dates and individual skill strengths.
- Technical Guidance: Act as the primary technical authority on the floor, guiding the team through complex structural alignment, plastic repairs, panel pulling, and welding according to OEM repair data.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct stage-by-stage and final quality checks to ensure all bodywork, filler work, primer application, and gaps meet flawless factory standards before vehicles move to the paint or valeting departments.
- Target & Cycle Time Management: Monitor production metrics closely, eliminating bottlenecks to ensure vehicles flow seamlessly from stripping to panel, paint, assembly, and final handover.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ensuring correct use of frame machines, welding equipment, and dust extraction systems to maintain a safe, clean working environment.
- Consumables & Tool Control: Manage workshop consumables (sandpaper, fillers, welding wire) efficiently to minimize waste, and ensure all shop equipment is regularly maintained.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certification: Certified Trade Test / Red Seal (Panel Beater or Spray Painter) is highly desirable, though equivalent extensive structural repair experience will be considered.

- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of modern vehicle construction, including high-strength steels, aluminium repair, computerized measuring systems, and structural pull benches (e.g., Celette, Car-O-Liner).
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to command respect on the shop floor, motivate a diverse team, de-escalate tension, and enforce high discipline standards.
- Estimation Literacy: Familiarity with collision estimating systems (such as Audatex or Abuntex) to understand authorized scopes of work and manage supplemental repair claims.
