Globe 24-7, in partnership with a leading mining company, is seeking a Senior Supply Chain and Commercial Manager to join their team in Malawi. Working on a 6 weeks on 3 weeks off FIFO roster.
This role combines operational leadership with strategic supply chain and commercial management responsibilities. The incumbent is responsible for the safe, timely and cost-effective delivery of procurement, logistics, warehousing, inventory, contracts and commercial services that support mining, processing, engineering, maintenance and camp operations.
The Responsibilities
Key accountabilities
- Develop and implement supply chain and commercial strategies aligned with operational requirements, business objectives, budgets and growth plans.
- Lead procurement, warehousing, inventory, logistics, and contract management functions.
- Provide leadership across all supply chain and commercial activities, balancing operational delivery with longer-term strategic objectives.
- Develop and monitor KPIs to measure service levels, inventory performance, supplier effectiveness, working capital and continuous improvement outcomes.
- Drive supply chain optimisation, supplier development, commercial governance and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance and reduce risk.
- Identify, assess and manage supply chain and commercial risks to support operational continuity and business resilience.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all supply chain and commercial activities.
- Partner with site and corporate leadership teams to support operational delivery, capital projects, strategic planning and business growth initiatives.
Procurement and Strategic Sourcing
- Develop sourcing strategies that deliver value, quality, reliability, and cost savings.
- Manage end-to-end procurement processes including tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and contract award.
- Manage supplier relationship management and alternative sources.
- Establish preferred supplier agreements and strategic partnerships.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, governance requirements, and ethical standards.
- Identify opportunities for local supplier development and participation.
Contracts Management
- Oversee commercial contracts for goods, equipment, and services.
- Lead contract negotiations to secure favorable commercial terms.
- Manage contract renewals, amendments, and dispute resolution processes.
- Mitigate commercial and supply risks through appropriate contractual safeguards.
Logistics and Freight Management
- Manage domestic and international transportation of materials, equipment, and consumables.
- Coordinate import and export activities, including customs clearance and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure efficient management of freight forwarding, shipping schedules, and border requirements.
- Develop contingency plans for supply disruptions and logistical challenges.
- Monitor logistics costs and identify efficiencies.
Warehouse and Inventory Management
- Oversee all warehouse operations and inventory control systems.
- Maintain optimal stock levels to support uninterrupted mining operations.
- Ensure critical spares and strategic inventories are appropriately managed.
- Minimize inventory obsolescence and excess stock holdings.
- Develop and manage the annual supply chain budget.
- Drive cost reduction and working capital optimization; monitor KPIs including cost per tonne and working capital.
- Deliver procurement savings and working capital improvement initiatives.
- Monitor expenditure against budgets and forecasts.
- Support month-end and year-end reporting requirements.
- Ensure robust internal controls and audit compliance.
The Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience on operational mine sites with demonstrated extensive involvement in site-based supply chain and commercial management including implementing process and systems improvement.
- Previous experience working in Africa and managing remote or site-based supply chain operations.
- Tertiary qualifications in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Commerce, Business, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Professional procurement certification (CIPS, CPSM, MCIPS, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of import/export regulations and customs processes across Africa.
- Exposure to inventory and warehouse management systems and protocols.
- Sound working knowledge of the Pronto ERP system or similar ERP.
- Demonstrated understanding of occupational health and safety requirements in an operational environment.
- High standard of personal integrity, professionalism and attention to detail.
- Motivated team player with a positive attitude and an effective communication style.
