Job summary

Minopex in Northern Cape seeks an experienced supply chain leader to plan, source, store and move materials for a remote mining site at Aggeneys. You will ensure safe, compliant, cost-effective logistics to sustain mining, processing, maintenance and site services.

You will drive procure-to-pay, manage stock accuracy, KPI reporting and continuous improvement across ERP systems, partnering with procurement, maintenance, engineering and SHEQ to optimise value and performance.

Qualifications

  • Matric/Grade 12 or equivalent NQF 4
  • Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Supply Chain/ related
  • CIPS/SAPICS certification advantageous
  • Valid South African driver’s licence

Responsibilities

Job description

Introduction

This position will be based on Site in Aggeneys, Northern Cape.

Description

The purpose of this position is accountable for planning, leading and controlling the end-to-end supply chain function for a mining operation in the Northern Cape. The role ensures that goods, services, spares, reagents, consumables and logistics support are available safely, legally, cost-effectively and on time to sustain mining, processing, maintenance and corporate support activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
Functional Role – Key Supply Chain Functions
  • Translate mining, plant, maintenance and project requirements into reliable supply plans.
  • Source goods and services required for day-to-day operations at the correct specification, price and lead time.
  • Secure sustainable supply for high-value and high-risk categories
  • Receive, store, preserve and issue materials safely while maintaining stock accuracy
  • Optimise availability of critical items while reducing excess working capital
  • Move inbound and outbound materials to and from the remote Northern Cape site safely and efficiently.
  • Build reliable supplier relationships and ensure vendor compliance with mine standards
  • Maintain accurate supply chain information for decision-making and auditability.
Operational Performance Responsibilities
  • Manage the procure-to-pay process from approved requisition to supplier payment, ensuring accurate specifications, timely purchase orders, correct goods receipt and prompt resolution of invoice queries.
  • Prioritise critical operational needs for mining production, plant availability, maintenance shutdowns, laboratory services, engineering projects and site services.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs including purchase order cycle time, on-time-in-full delivery, inventory accuracy, stock availability, emergency procurement, supplier performance, savings delivered and audit findings closed.
  • Drive continuous improvement through standardised processes, root-cause analysis, practical technology adoption and disciplined follow-up on supply chain actions.
Financial Management
  • Prepare, manage and report on supply chain budgets, committed spend, inventory value and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Control expenditure in line with approved budgets, delegated authority levels and cash-flow requirements.
  • Identify cost, quality and service improvements through supplier negotiation, contract leverage, inventory optimisation and reduction of waste, obsolescence and shrinkage.
  • Support accurate accruals, GR/IR clearing, stock valuation, capital spares control and audit-ready financial records
Customers and Stakeholders
  • Maintain effective relationships with Mining, Processing, Maintenance, Engineering, SHEQ, Finance, HR, Projects and Corporate Supply Chain.
  • Engage professionally with suppliers, service providers, transporters, contractors, community/local suppliers and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Provide clear communication on supply risks, delivery commitments, procurement status, inventory availability and corrective actions.
  • Promote teamwork, service discipline and accountability across the Supply Chain team.
Qualification Requirements
  • Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
  • Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Commerce, Engineering, Finance or a related discipline.
  • CIPS, SAPICS or equivalent professional supply chain certification will be advantageous.
  • Valid South African driver’s licence.
Experience and Skills Requirements
  • Minimum (5) five years’ management experience in supply chain, procurement, warehousing, logistics, inventory or materials management, preferably in mining, mineral processing, engineering or heavy industry.
  • Practical understanding of mine operations, concentrator/processing plant requirements, maintenance spares, reagents, consumables, contractor services and remote-site logistics is advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/materials management systems, codification, MRP, stock control, tender processes, contract administration, BBBEE requirements and relevant South African legislation.
  • Strong commercial judgement, negotiation ability, financial acumen, analytical problem-solving, report writing and presentation skills.
  • High attention to detail, ethical conduct, resilience, customer-service orientation and ability to influence across departments.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel and ERP reporting capability preferred.
