About the Role

Our client, a major player in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry, is actively seeking a visionary and experienced Supply Chain Director to oversee their extensive operations. This critical leadership role, based remotely with occasional travel to Durban, KwaZulu-Natal , is responsible for optimizing the entire supply chain network, from procurement and inventory management to logistics and distribution. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of end-to-end supply chain processes, leverage advanced analytics, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure timely delivery of products nationwide. This is a unique opportunity to architect and lead the supply chain strategy for a prominent organization in the FMCG sector, contributing significantly to its operational excellence and market competitiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a strategic vision for the entire supply chain, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
• Oversee all aspects of procurement, inventory management, warehousing, transportation, and distribution.
• Implement and manage advanced supply chain planning and optimization tools and technologies.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service levels across the supply chain.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, logistics providers, and other external partners.
• Develop and manage the supply chain budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and ROI.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing supply chain team across various functional areas.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, safety standards, and sustainability practices within the supply chain.
• Analyze supply chain performance metrics and identify areas for improvement, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Collaborate with sales, marketing, and manufacturing departments to ensure seamless product flow and demand fulfillment, supporting operations in Durban and beyond.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Research, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Extensive experience within the FMCG industry is mandatory, with a deep understanding of its unique supply chain dynamics.
• Proven track record of successfully designing, implementing, and optimizing complex supply chain networks.
• Expertise in supply chain planning software, WMS, TMS, and ERP systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
• Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience managing large budgets and driving cost-saving initiatives.
• Familiarity with the South African logistics landscape, including operations around Durban .
