Job summary

EdUpStairs in Pretoria seeks a hands-on Horticultural Supervisor to manage outdoor operations and ensure safety compliance. You will oversee equipment, monitor supplies, and coordinate maintenance schedules across garden areas.

Required are ABET level 4/ Grade 9, horticultural knowledge, clerical skills, and a valid driver’s license. You will lead staff, support HR processes, and maintain a clean, safe environment in line with OHS standards.

Qualifications

• ABET level 4/ Grade 9 or higher.
• Experience in horticultural practices and clerical services is advantageous.
• Knowledge of garden maintenance and office administration.
• Ability to operate horticultural equipment and adherence to OHS.

Responsibilities

• Manage and control equipment and materials; identify resource needs.
• Monitor condition and availability of equipment.
• Plan and monitor maintenance schedules for equipment and outdoor tasks.
• Remove weeds and grass from bedding.
• Supervise soil fertilization on flower beds.
• Inspect worked ground areas and remove garden rubbish.
• Inspect logistics and environment to ensure clean, safe conditions.
• Provide general supervision and support the administration of the Section.
• Identify staff training needs and development.
• Assist with performance reviews of subordinates.
• Support administration of human resources.

Job description

• A minimum of ABET level 4/ Grade 9.
• Relevant experience of horticultural practices and clerical services will be an added advantage).
• Knowledge of Garden maintenance practices; Office Administration.
• Operating horticultural equipment; Occupational health and safety; personnel practices.
• Labour Relations Act. Effective communication skills.
• Good communication, leadership and organizational skills.
• A valid driver’s license.

Duties

• Manage and control equipment and materials-: Identify resource requirements and special operational needs.
• Monitor the condition and availability of equipment.
• Ensure the maintenance/servicing of equipment and other outdoor maintenance tasks-: Prepare, implement and monitor maintenance schedules.
• Ensure that weeds and grass on bedding are removed.
• Supervise the fertilization of soil on flower beds.
• Perform physical inspection of worked ground areas-: Ensure the removal of garden rubbish/refuse around buildings.
• Ensure the inspection of logistics and physical environment to ensure clean maintained environment adherence to OHS.
• Perform general supervision and support the administration of the Section.
• Identify staff requirements in terms of training and development.
• Assist with performance reviews of subordinates.
• Support the administration of human resources.
