Job summary

Staff Connection, Inc. seeks an experienced Garden Manager in Johannesburg to lead a team of gardeners and ensure outdoor spaces meet exceptional standards. You will be hands-on in daily operations.

You will plan rosters, supervise performance, manage equipment and stock, monitor safety, and actively guide garden activities with a practical, detail-focused approach.

Qualifications

• Proven management/supervisory experience in large garden/estate/hospitality environments.
• Experience managing a gardening team is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of gardening equipment and machinery.
• Excellent organisational and rostering skills.
• Experience with stock and equipment control.
• Strong leadership and communication abilities.
• Hands-on, practical approach with high attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and mentor a team of gardeners.

The Role

You will oversee a team of gardeners, ensuring the gardens and outdoor areas are consistently maintained to an exceptional standard.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing, supervising and motivating a team of gardeners
• Planning daily tasks and preparing staff rosters
• Overseeing gardening equipment, tools and machinery
• Ensuring equipment is properly maintained and in good working order
• Managing garden-related stock, supplies and inventory
• Monitoring the use of fertilisers, chemicals, tools and other resources
• Ensuring gardening and maintenance standards are consistently upheld
• Identifying areas requiring attention and coordinating necessary work
• Managing staff performance, productivity and timekeeping
• Ensuring health, safety and housekeeping standards are maintained
• Being hands-on and actively involved in the day-to-day garden operations

What We Are Looking For

• Proven management/supervisory experience , preferably within a large garden, estate, hospitality or similar environment
• Experience managing a gardening team is highly advantageous
• Strong knowledge of gardening equipment and machinery
• Excellent organisational and rostering skills
• Experience with stock and equipment control
• Strong leadership and communication abilities
