Placements24 is seeking a Substation Technician to join our client’s team in Soweto, Gauteng. You will perform inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on high-voltage substations and equipment, ensuring safety and reliability of power supply in the region.

The role requires a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or equivalent, at least 3 years of experience, and proficiency with testing tools and electrical diagrams.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Substation Technician or similar electrical maintenance role.
• Proven experience with high-voltage substation equipment.
• Ability to read electrical diagrams and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and lockout/tagout protocols for high-voltage environments.

Responsabilités

• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on substation equipment (transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, relays).
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults and malfunctions in substation systems.
• Execute repairs and replacements of faulty components per specifications and safety standards.
• Conduct testing and calibration of substation equipment, including relays and metering devices.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Assist senior technicians and engineers on complex tasks and projects.
