Job summary

Assegai Recruitment seeks a Structural Technician / Draughtsperson to support an established engineering team in Westville, Durban. You will prepare and detail structural drawings for a range of building projects, using engineer designs, sketches and mark-ups to produce accurate construction drawings.

We value practical drafting experience, the ability to interpret sketches, and a strong command of AutoCAD.

Qualifications

• Essential AutoCAD drafting skills and attention to detail.
• Experience with reinforced concrete and structural steel drawings is preferred.
• Ability to interpret engineers' sketches and construct detailed drawings.

Responsibilities

• Prepare structural engineering drawings using AutoCAD.
• Produce detailed drawings from engineers’ designs, sketches and mark-ups.
• Prepare general arrangement and structural detail drawings.
• Assist with drawings for reinforced concrete, structural steel and other structural elements as required.
• Amend and update drawings in accordance with engineering comments and project revisions.
• Ensure drawings are accurate, clearly presented and compliant with company drafting standards.
• Coordinate drawing information with engineers and other project team members.
• Maintain drawing registers, revisions and project documentation where required.
• Assist with the preparation of drawings for tender, construction and as-built purposes.
• Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Draughting would be advantageous.
• Previous experience in structural engineering draughting or detailing.
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Ability to interpret engineering sketches, designs and technical information.
• Understanding of structural drawing conventions and construction detailing.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work effectively with structural engineers and other members of the project team.
• Based within reasonable travelling distance of Westville or able to commute to the office.

A well-established engineering firm based in Westville is looking for a Structural Technician / Draughtsperson with strong AutoCAD skills to join its structural engineering team in Westville, Durban.

The successful candidate will assist with the preparation and detailing of structural engineering drawings for a range of building and structural projects. This position would suit someone with practical structural drafting experience who is comfortable working from engineers’ designs, sketches and mark-ups and producing accurate construction drawings.
