Job summary

Placements24 is recruiting a Senior Structural Design Engineer in Gauteng (Tembisa). You will design and develop structural systems for residential and commercial projects, ensuring safety, cost-effectiveness, and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Pr.Eng or Pr.Tech.Eng registration with ECSA required
• Minimum 7 years of structural design experience
• Proficiency in SAP2000, ETABS, Prokon or similar software
• AutoCAD and/or Revit for drafting
• Strong knowledge of materials (concrete, steel, masonry, timber) and codes

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for new buildings and renovations (concrete, steel, timber)
• Create detailed drawings, calculations, and specifications using relevant software
• Conduct site inspections to monitor progress and safety

About the Role

You will be instrumental in ensuring the safety, stability, and efficiency of the structures we build. This is a site-based and office-based position requiring full commitment to the project lifecycle from conception through to completion. We are looking for an individual with a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of structural principles, and the ability to apply cutting-edge engineering techniques. The successful candidate will work closely with architects, project managers, and construction teams to bring architectural visions to life, ensuring all structural elements are robust and cost-effective. Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for new buildings and renovations, including concrete, steel, and timber structures.
• Develop detailed structural drawings, calculations, and specifications using relevant software.
• Conduct site inspections to monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, and contractors to provide optimal structural solutions that meet project requirements and budget constraints.
• Review and approve shop drawings and construction submittals from contractors.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and design documentation for client presentations and regulatory approvals.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant building codes, standards, and regulations in South Africa.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr.Tech.Eng) registration with ECSA is required.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in structural design, preferable within the building construction industry.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, ETABS, Prokon, or similar.
• Expertise in AutoCAD and/or Revit for structural drafting.
• Strong understanding of material properties (concrete, steel, masonry, timber) and their application in structural design.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
• Knowledge of local building codes and regulations is mandatory.
