Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Structural Civil Engineer in Midrand, Gauteng. You will lead the design of foundations, superstructures, and retaining walls, applying SANS standards and coordinating with architects, contractors and other disciplines.

You will manage project timelines and budgets, mentor junior staff, and contribute to tender proposals while ensuring high-quality technical outputs and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Pr.Eng. registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• 8+ years of structural engineering design and project management experience.
• Proficiency in ETABS, SAP2000, Prokon, AutoCAD, Revit.

About the Role

Our client, a leading engineering consultancy in the Midrand region, is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Structural Civil Engineer to join their dynamic team. You will be instrumental in the design, planning, and execution of complex structural systems, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design of building projects, including foundations, superstructures, and retaining walls.
• Conduct detailed engineering analysis and calculations using industry-standard software.
• Prepare and review detailed technical drawings, specifications, and reports.
• Collaborate effectively with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
• Perform site inspections and provide technical support during construction phases.
• Ensure all designs comply with South African National Standards (SANS) and other relevant building regulations.
• Mentor and guide junior engineering staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.
• Proactively identify and mitigate potential design and construction risks.
• Contribute to tender preparation and client proposal development.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in structural engineering design and project management.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, Prokon) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
• Deep understanding of material properties (concrete, steel, masonry) and structural behaviour.
• Experience with a variety of project types, including high-rise buildings and industrial facilities.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong report writing and presentation abilities.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for site visits as required.
