Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer for a leading chemical manufacturer in Benoni, Gauteng. You will drive strategic sourcing for raw materials, negotiate terms, and secure supply while optimizing cost and quality in a dynamic market.

You'll collaborate with R&D, production and QA to define material specs, monitor trends and mitigate supply risks across the chain. The role involves travel and a hybrid work setup in Benoni; a Bachelor's degree and 7+ years in raw materials

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in SCM, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field.
7+ years procurement experience focusing on raw materials in chemical/manufacturing.
Expertise in strategic sourcing, negotiation, and contract management.
Knowledge of chemical markets and global supply chains.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
Proven leadership with cross-functional teams.
ERP systems proficiency (e.g., SAP) and procurement tools.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Willing to travel domestically and internationally.
Hybrid work model based in Benoni, Gauteng.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans for key raw materials, ensuring supply continuity and cost optimization.
Lead negotiations with global and local suppliers to secure favorable pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
Manage and cultivate strong, long‑term relationships with critical raw material suppliers.
Monitor global market trends, commodity prices, and geopolitical factors impacting raw material supply.
Identify and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure a resilient supply chain.
Collaborate closely with R&D, production, and quality assurance teams to define material specifications and quality standards.
Manage inventory levels for raw materials to balance supply needs with working capital efficiency.
Conduct supplier performance evaluations and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Oversee the contract management process for raw material agreements.
Stay abreast of regulatory changes and sustainability requirements affecting raw material sourcing.
