Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Purchasing Officer to manage procurement of raw materials at a Richards Bay facility. You will forecast material needs, source suppliers, and maintain inventory levels to support production.

The role requires collaboration with Production, Quality, and Logistics to ensure timely, cost-effective supply. The ideal candidate has 3+ years in purchasing, a related degree, strong negotiation skills, and experience with ERP and MS Office.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of purchasing experience, preferably in raw materials or industrial supplies.
• Strong understanding of procurement principles and supplier management.
• Experience with ERP systems and MS Office.
• Based in or willing to commute to Richards Bay with hybrid work.
• Knowledge of the local South African supplier market is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Procure raw materials and components according to production schedules and quality specs.
• Identify and evaluate new suppliers meeting quality, cost, and delivery needs.
• Negotiate prices and terms to achieve cost savings while ensuring quality.
• Manage supplier relationships and performance; address issues proactively.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the warehouse for optimal stock.
• Process purchase orders using the company's ERP system.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Logistics for alignment.
• Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and procedures.
• Track market trends for raw materials; report on costs and supplier performance.
• Prepare regular purchasing activity reports.
