Job description

An established extrusion manufacturing plant is looking for a detail-driven Stock Controller to join its Stores and Inventory Control department, reporting to the Production and Operations Manager. You’ll be responsible for accurate control of raw materials, work in progress and finished goods. That means every material can be traced from receipt to dispatch, stock records match what’s physically on the floor, and production waste is reported daily for every line. It’s a key role in controlling costs, preventing material losses and keeping the plant ready for audits.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Receive and verify raw materials (resin, masterbatch, additives, packaging) against purchase orders, recording batch numbers and applying first-in-first-out rotation.
  • Issue materials to production lines and link raw material lots to production batches.
  • Record finished goods, verify labels and reconcile physical stock to production reports.
  • Check that all production stock documentation is complete, signed and reconciled.
  • Collect and report scrap, regrind and waste per line daily, and flag abnormal trends.
  • Run daily line checks, weekly cycle counts and full monthly stock counts, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor slow-moving and obsolete stock, and track bobbins and packaging.
  • Maintain traceability records and support internal and external audits.
Requirements
  • Matric / Grade 12.
  • A diploma or certificate in Inventory Management, Logistics, Supply Chain or a related field.
  • 3+ years’ stock control experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience with batch traceability, cycle counts and stock reconciliations.
  • Strong MS Excel skills and experience on a stock or ERP system.
  • Experience recording and reporting production waste and scrap.

Advantageous

  • Experience in plastics extrusion, cable or fibre manufacturing.
  • ISO 9001 or audit experience.

Key Targets

  • Stock accuracy above 98%, with monthly variance below 1%.
  • 100% raw material batch traceability and zero incomplete documentation.
  • Daily waste reports completed before close of business.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Integrity, accountability and organisational discipline.
  • Problem-solving ability and composure under pressure.
