Job summary

The Hotel is seeking seasonal Stewards to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, providing clean tools and equipment for the culinary team while following health and environmental standards.

Positions are fixed-term, hourly paid, with shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. Employment Equity preferences apply; contract runs from 01 November 2026 to 30 April 2027 with a closing date of 02 October 2026.

Qualifications

• Matric is required.
• Willingness to work mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Previous experience in kitchen cleaning or scullery.
• Satisfactory criminal record, subject to assessment.

Responsibilities

• Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans and other kitchen equipment thoroughly.
• Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen including floors and work areas.
• Ensure a supply of clean dishes, glassware and utensils.
• Dispose of kitchen waste and maintain waste systems.
• Store chemicals and equipment safely according to regulations.
• Support kitchen staff by tidying storage areas.
• Follow hygiene and safety regulations at all times.

We are looking to recruit seasonal Stewards to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene within the kitchen, ensuring all utensils, equipment, and work areas are properly cleaned, sanitized, and available for use. The Kitchen Steward supports the smooth running of food preparation and service by providing clean, well-maintained tools and equipment to the culinary team while adhering to all health, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Accountabilities

• Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment thoroughly and efficiently.
• Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, including floors, work areas, and storage spaces.
• Ensure an adequate supply of clean dishes, glassware, and utensils for service.
• Properly dispose of kitchen waste and maintain waste management systems.
• Store cleaning chemicals and kitchen equipment safely according to regulations.
• Support kitchen staff by organizing and tidying up storage areas.
• Ensure compliance with hygiene, health, and safety regulations always

Minimum Requirements

• Matric
• Shift work including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Previous experience in a kitchen cleaning or scullery
• Satisfactory criminal record, subject to assessment of the nature, severity, relevance, and recency of any offence
