MRI Software in Cape Town is seeking an Application Support Analyst (SQL-focused) to join our technical team. The role emphasizes writing and optimising SQL/PLSQL, diagnosing complex data issues, and delivering data‑driven solutions to clients in a hybrid setting.

You will own database‑driven support cases, work from the Cape Town office with three days remote per week, and collaborate with clients to translate requirements into efficient SQL-based solutions.

Qualifications

• 4–6+ years’ experience in application or technical support within enterprise software.
• Strong, practical experience writing complex SQL queries from scratch.
• Hands-on Oracle PL/SQL experience, including stored procedures, triggers, and packages.
• Ability to build, modify, and optimise SQL statements to solve real business problems.
• Experience with query performance tuning (indexes, execution plans, optimisation techniques).
• Strong understanding of relational database design and data structures.
• Ability to work with large datasets and extract meaningful insights via SQL.
• Clear communication of technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
• Fluent in English.

Responsibilities

• Write, troubleshoot, and optimise SQL queries, scripts, and PL/SQL code to resolve client issues.
• Analyse complex data-related problems using custom SQL statements and queries.
• Act as a technical escalation point for advanced database and application issues.
• Perform root cause analysis, identifying issues within database structures, queries, or data integrity.
• Review and improve existing queries to enhance performance, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Work directly with clients to gather requirements and translate them into SQL-based solutions.
• Ensure delivery against SLAs and KPIs, maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.
• Contribute to documentation, including SQL scripts and best practices.
• Mentor junior analysts in SQL development and debugging approaches.
• Participate in UAT, validating data fixes and database-related changes.
