Job description

Spa at a Country Hotel basedclose to Mkuze is looking for a Spa Therapist & Wellness Practitioner.

This is a hands-on guest-facing position responsible for delivering high-quality spa treatments while also contributing to the broader wellness experience.

The role is primarily that of a practising spa therapist. However, we are specifically looking for someone who brings an additional wellness skill such as yoga, pilates, guided stretching, mobility, breathwork or a related discipline.

The successful candidate will perform treatments as part of the normal spa roster while also leading scheduled wellness sessions for hotel guests and offering private sessions where appropriate.

The intention is to broaden what the hotel can offer guests beyond traditional spa treatments and make better use of the spa team during quieter treatment periods.

The position will suit someone who enjoys working directly with guests, is comfortable leading individuals and small groups, and is interested in combining traditional spa therapy with a broader approach to wellbeing.

Duties:

Spa Activities:

• Deliver professional spa treatments in accordance with treatment protocols and standards. Provide massage, body and other treatments appropriate to the therapist’s qualifications and training.
• Consult with guests before treatments and adapt treatments appropriately to individual needs.
• Recommend suitable treatments, wellness activities and retail products where appropriate.
• Develop relationships with hotel guests, repeat spa guests and local clients.
• Maintain consistently high standards of guest care, professionalism and discretion.
• Assist in creating awareness of the spa amongst hotel guests and encourage appropriate treatment bookings.
• Work closely with the Spa Manager and wider hotel team to ensure the spa forms part of the overall guest experience.

Wellness Activities:

• Lead scheduled group wellness sessions for hotel guests.
• Depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications, these may include yoga, guided stretching, mobility, breathwork or similar activities.
• Offer private one-to-one wellness sessions where appropriate.
• Adapt sessions for different ages, fitness levels and abilities.
• Help develop simple wellness experiences that complement the hotel’s spa, safari, nature and outdoor offering.
• Work with the Spa Manager and hotel management to develop appropriate wellness activities, packages and guest itineraries.
• Identify opportunities to incorporate wellness naturally into guests’ stays rather than treating it as a separate spa product.
• Where appropriate, make use of suitable areas around the property for wellness activities rather than limiting sessions to the spa itself.

Spa Operations:

• Maintain treatment rooms and wellness areas to the required standard of cleanliness and presentation.
• Prepare treatment rooms and equipment before appointments and restore them promptly afterwards.
• Follow all hygiene, health and safety requirements.
• Ensure treatments are correctly booked and recorded on the spa booking system before being performed.
• Ensure all treatments, products and other charges are accurately processed.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures as required.
• Assist with stocktakes, product control and monitoring professional product usage.
• Report maintenance, stock or operational issues promptly to the Spa Manager.
• Support colleagues during busy periods and work cooperatively as part of the wider hotel team.

Guest Engagement & Commercial Contribution:

• Take an active interest in hotel occupancy, guest profiles and opportunities to introduce relevant spa and wellness experiences.
• Engage naturally with guests and make them aware of treatments and wellness activities available during their stay.
• Encourage appropriate pre-booking and additional treatments where these genuinely suit the guest.
• Support retail sales through knowledgeable and appropriate product recommendations.
• Help identify opportunities for private wellness sessions and other chargeable wellness experiences.
• Participate in hotel packages, retreats, group programmes and special events where wellness forms part of the guest experience.

Requirements:

• A recognised qualification in beauty therapy, spa therapy, massage therapy or a related discipline.
• Competent practising therapist with strong massage and body treatment skills.
• Relevant professional spa, hotel, lodge, resort or wellness experience.
• Hold an additional recognised qualification or have demonstrable experience in at least one complementary wellness discipline, ideally yoga, Pilates, guided stretching, mobility, breathwork or similar.
• Confident leading both individual and small-group wellness sessions.
• Warm, personable and comfortable engaging with hotel guests.
• Able to understand individual guest needs and recommend appropriate treatments or wellness activities without being overly sales focused.
• Good product knowledge and be comfortable recommending suitable treatments and retail products.
• Proactive and able to use quieter periods productively rather than simply waiting for treatment bookings.
• Good verbal communication skills and be comfortable explaining wellness activities to guests of different ages and levels of experience.
• Organised, reliable and able to work independently when required.
• Flexible regarding working hours, including weekends and public holidays in accordance with hotel operations.
• Experience with Dermalogica and / or Terres d’Afrique would be advantageous
