SGS SA is seeking a Site Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Intern to support HSE and quality activities on site in Durban. The role covers inspections, KPI reporting, training scheduling, and documentation to ensure compliance with HSE standards.

Qualifications

  • Practical risk assessment experience or training.

Responsibilities

Job description

Site Health, Safety, Environment, Quality Intern

Contract

1. Keep the Site supervisor and site personnel aware of all HSE matters.

2. Conduct monthly and quarterly HSE inspections timeously for the site and report any deviations to the Site Supervisor.

3. Implement and submit monthly KPI's report for the site.

4. Prepare the training schedule for the site and conduct the training as per the schedule.

5. Conduct training on Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures and work instructions and maintain records. Prepare and conduct toolbox talks and HSE awareness topics for the site.

6. Implementation and track the HSE Tiers for the site, as per Country Top Page requirements. Monitor quality objectives for the site.

7. Log all hazards and BBS onto the Crystal regularly.

8. Facilitate Risk Assessments and ensure validity of the Risk assessments for the site.

9. Implement Emergency preparedness and facilitate emergency drills.

10. Arrange and schedule medicals as per site specific medical surveillance program.

11. Arrange with the Business H&S team for H&S onboarding for new personnel and conduct site specific H&S induction.

12. Conduct H&S monthly and SHE committee quarterly meetings and take accurate and comprehensive minutes of these meetings.

13. Assist the site with the development, implementation, and monitoring of Travel Management Plans and fulfil all responsibilities and duties as the assigned Travel Safety Officer role.

14. Develop Waste Management Plan and monitor adherence to it.

15. Promote HSE Awareness (Campaigns, Awareness, Communication, etc.) throughout the responsible site.

16. Assist with the implementation of Global H&S initiatives throughout responsible site where applicable (Safe Start, Stellar, Safety Month, Quarterly Campaigns, Safe Talks, SGS Rules for Life, Stop Work Authority, BBS, etc.)

17. Control, maintain, and manage all company documents and records according to the document control procedure and the Records and data control procedure.

18. Ensure Impartiality pledges and confidentiality agreements are signed by all personnel on an annual basis

19. Participate in audits and Occupational Hygiene Surveys and assist with conducting root cause analysis for non-conformances, developing a health risk assessment for the site and ensure corrective actions are closed out timeously.

20. Monitor calibration of equipment and arrange for calibration according to the calibration schedule.

21. Ensure that the daily pre-check inspection and monthly verification of equipment is conducted and maintain all records and report any irregularities to the Site Supervisor.

Eligibility & Personal Criteria
  • Be a South African citizen (be able to produce a valid South African ID document)
  • Be between the ages of 18-33
  • Must be currently unemployed
  • Must have no criminal record
  • Must be willing to relocate to Durban Bluff
  • Exceptional Computer Literacy (use of MS Office suite - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
