Job summary

MECS Africa is seeking a detail-oriented logistics professional based in Johannesburg to coordinate international supplier orders from placement to shipment. You will review supplier confirmations, maintain trackers, and liaise with global suppliers on availability and lead times, ensuring accurate documentation throughout the process.

Qualifications

• Exposure to import/export documentation and customs requirements.

Responsibilities

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate international supplier orders from placement through to shipment.
• Obtain and review supplier confirmations and proforma invoices.
• Maintain accurate order and shipment trackers and monitor delivery timelines.
• Liaise with international suppliers regarding availability, production, lead times and shipment readiness.
• Coordinate inbound international shipments through to the destination port.
• Monitor vessel schedules, shipping milestones and expected arrival dates.
• Liaise with freight, shipping and clearing partners.
• Ensure shipping, supplier and import documentation is accurate and complete.
• Identify and resolve documentation discrepancies and potential delays.
• Work closely with Commercial, Finance, Operations and Logistics teams.
• Provide regular order and shipment updates to management.
• Support supplier onboarding and relationship management.
• Develop and improve processes for order and shipment tracking.
• Proactively identify supply chain risks and implement solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Commerce or a related field.
• Experience in international procurement, supply chain, logistics, imports/exports or supplier coordination.
• Experience working with international suppliers or manufacturers.
• Good understanding of purchasing and supplier order processes.
• Exposure to import/export documentation and customs requirements.
• Knowledge of Incoterms would be advantageous.
• Ocean freight experience is advantageous but not essential â training will be provided.
• Experience with chemicals, dangerous goods, mining, industrial products or regulated cargo will be highly advantageous.
• Strong computer literacy and excellent administrative skills.

International Exposure

The successful candidate will work with suppliers across China, India, Europe, the United States, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.Â

Travel

The position is based in Johannesburg with regular visits to satellite sites. The successful candidate may initially be required to spend approximately 2â3 months in East Africa.Â
