Job summary

Synergy Jobs (Pty) Ltd in Kempton Park seeks an International Logistics Manager to lead and optimize global logistics operations. You will manage import/export activities, ensure compliance, and drive cost efficiency across multiple markets.

You will develop strategies, oversee 3PLs and freight providers, and build a high-performing team while reporting on KPI-based performance to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or BCom degree in a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Logistics and Supply Chain.
  • 8–10 years’ experience in clearing agency, International Logistics or Trade Compliance.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a management role.
  • Experience with end-to-end import/export operations and multi-modal freight.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure imports/exports are on time and within requested windows.
  • Manage all import/export activities across markets.
  • Ensure SARS Customs and trade compliance are met.
  • Optimize landed costs via planning, clearance, and reporting.
  • Maintain strong relationships with 3PLs, suppliers, and customers.
  • Manage logistics risks and business continuity requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes and service levels.
  • Lead and develop the International Logistics team.
  • Create and monitor KPI targets for cost, compliance, service, and inventory.
  • Provide reporting and decision-support for management.

Job description

POSITION: International Logistics Manager

LOCATION: Kempton Park

PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE:

To manage and optimize the international logistics function, ensuring the efficient, compliant
and cost-effective movement of goods through import and export channels. The role is
responsible for developing and executing logistics strategies, managing customs and trade
compliance, overseeing freight and third-party logistics service providers, leading the International
Logistics team, and ensuring consistent and effective supply chain performance that supports business growth, customer service excellence and profitability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensuring Import of product is on time as per request.
  • Timely availability of product as requested by organization
  • Effective management of all import and export activities across designated markets.
  • Compliance with SARS Customs, international trade regulations, and company policies.
  • Optimized freight, logistics and landed costs through effective planning, accurate and timely customs clearances, shipping documentation and regulatory reporting.
  • High-performing relationships with third party logistics service providers, suppliers (Imports) and customers (Exports).
  • Effective management of logistics risks, disruptions and business continuity requirements.
  • Continuous improvement of processes, systems and service levels.
  • Development and leadership of a high-performing International Logistics team.
  • Creation and achievement of departmental KPI targets relating to cost, compliance, service, inventory availability and operational efficiency.
  • Accurate reporting, performance analysis and decision‑making support for management and key stakeholders.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Diploma or BCom degree (preferred) in Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, International Trade, Commerce, Business Management, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Logistics and Supply Chain.
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in clearing agency, International Logistics, Supply Chain, Freight Forwarding, Imports, Exports, or Trade Compliance.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management role.
  • Proven experience managing end-to-end import and export operations.
  • Experience managing sea, air, and road freight movements.
  • Demonstrated experience working with SARS Customs, customs clearing agents, freight forwarders, shipping lines, airlines, and transport providers.
  • Experience in tariff classification, customs valuation, duty management, and trade compliance would be a significant advantage.
  • Experience as the appointed representative for AEO clearance.
  • Experience negotiating contracts and managing clearing and delivery service providers.
  • Experience operating within ERP environments, preferably Microsoft Dynamics Business Central.
  • Experience within agricultural, chemical, FMCG, manufacturing, distribution, or international trading environments would be advantageous.
  • Proven experience managing teams and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working across multiple countries and international supply chains.
  • A basic course in the transportation and storage of dangerous goods.
  • Professional certifications would be preferred, such as:
  • CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport)
  • APICS / ASCM Certifications
  • CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional)
  • CPIM (Certified in Planning and Inventory Management)
  • FIATA Freight Forwarding Certifications
  • Customs and International Trade Compliance Certifications

  • Substantial knowledge of international trade across different incoterms, with basic accounting and project management
  • Working knowledge of statuary requirements relating to global imports and exports with the SADC region.
