Job summary

Valterra Platinum invites applications for a C5 level position based in Mokopane, Limpopo. The role reports to the Senior Shift Supervisor and focuses on maintaining mining cycles, inspections, safety and coordination across maintenance and operations.

Required: Grade 12 with Maths & Science, Competent A, Blasting Certificate; Shift Supervisor cert advantageous; First Aid and Driver’s License. Minimum 3 years in mining with 2 years drilling experience, plus basic computer literacy.

Qualifications

• 3 years’ experience in Mining, including drilling.
• 2 years’ drilling experience required.
• Basic Computer Literacy.
• English literate.

Responsibilities

• Maintain quality methods and sequences to support mining cycle.
• Inspect high wall and forest areas; act on noncompliance.
• Inspect demarcation, barricades and hazardous areas; ensure compliance.
• Assist during breakdowns and coordinate support from other disciplines.
• Encourage cooperation between maintenance and operations.
• Monitor material usage and optimize reclaimed material usage.
• Coordinate haulage support and area contracts.
• Monitor production objectives and interpret them to the team.
• Verify stock levels and arrange materials/equipment orders.
• Record inspections under Minerals Act; submit checklists for hazardous machinery.
• Monitor attendance, timeworked and procurement of explosives.
• Record daily/weekly production statistics; report to Operations Manager.
• Deliver sustainability activities per Life of Asset Plan and discipline.
• Collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams and provide leadership.

Job Description

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Maintain quality working methods and sequences and work performances to support the continuance of the mining cycle.
• Inspection of high wall and forest areas and taking appropriate action in the event of noncompliance to legal and management specifics.
• Inspection of demarcation, barricading off back areas, hazardous areas and abandoned workings and taking appropriate action in the event of non-compliance to legal and management specifics.
• Assisting during breakdowns or emergencies and co-coordinating support from other disciplines.
• Encouraging co-operation and teamwork between maintenance and operational personnel.
• Monitoring material usage and ensuring that the use of reclaimed material is optimised.
• Arranging expertise for problems beyond the scope of existing resources. Co-coordinating the activities of the haulage servicemen allocated to the area.
• Monitoring contract work in area of responsibility Interpretation and communication of production objectives.
• Verifying stock levels and delivering of materials and equipment Utilising applicable system for the ordering of materials and equipment.
• Recording all specified inspections required by the Minerals Act.
• Submitting all checklists or formal controls required for the operation of hazardous machinery and equipment.
• Checking attendance registers and maintaining records for time worked Monitoring and advising on the ordering and procurement of explosives.
• Obtaining and recording daily/weekly production statistics.
• Execute delivery the sustainability activities as relevant to discipline and set out in the Life of Asset Plan to improve sustainability performance over time.
• Deliver Sustainable Mining Plan commitments relevant to discipline.
• Comply with environmental and social requirements as relevant to discipline.
• Implement environmental and social risk mitigation techniques as specified in the asset risk management approach as relevant to discipline.
• Effective two-way open communication with other team members.
• Encourage co-operation and teamwork Supervise and motivate team Maintain awareness of needs of area teams.
• Conduct meetings as required to maintain effective communication.
• Liaison with colleagues on maintenance schedules for the week/month ahead Involvement in multi-disciplinary teams.
• Supporting the logistics process.
• Continuous liaising with the Operations Manager regarding mining activities.
• Ensuring team activities support each other in the mining cycle.
• Monitor and advise the teams on working methods and scheduling.

This role is at a C5 level reporting to Senior Shift Supervisor.
